A gritty yet refined rock song with big drums and angry guitars. Written by Taylor Mesple.
lyrics
Make the water into red wine
And pour it out to fill the sea
Turn the pebbles into diamonds
This is all you think of me
So a prisoner I’ve become
Of your laws that weigh a ton
Your book I can’t escape
As I try to stop the blame from falling down on everyone
Ask my Father for forgiveness
They know not what they do to me
They follow principles and shadows
They’re always deaf in hearing me
So a prisoner I’ve become
Of your laws that weigh a ton
Your books I can’t escape
As I try to stop the blame from pouring down from everyone
It’s quiet here in the silence
The cold night enveloping my breath
I know they’ll think it was my Father
Who sent me to a painful death
They’ll make up legends and instructions
Their books are idols on the throne
I’ll tell them how it’s truly finished
How death and hell I’ve overcome
But it’s hard to be a savior
And find what now is lost
And it’s hard to lead the people
When you’re nailed to the cross

I played bass, guitars, keyboards, sang vocals, programmed percussion and keyboard elements, produced and mixed the tune. Christian Teele played drums and recorded those himself. Mel Brown played an incredible bass solo at the end. Larry Thompson played additional drums under the bass solo. Joe Gamble played additional muscular guitars including that wonderful guitar solo. I mixed this tune "outside the box" using my venerable Innersonix 33609 buss compressor. It has that fat Neve sound that I love.
